Your first visit

From the first call to the first class

A placement visit is a short time in the water with an instructor, so we can suggest a level before your swimmer joins a class.

  1. Step 1: Book a time

Choose a placement time on our enrollment page, or call and we will find one. Tell us your swimmer's age and the level you think fits, or tell us you are not sure.

  2. Step 2: Meet at the pool

Placement visits are at the pool nearest the class you have in mind. Check in at that pool's front desk and find the instructor on the deck.

  3. Step 3: A short time in the water

Your swimmer gets in on the step or within arm's reach of the instructor while you watch. The visit takes about twenty minutes, and a swimmer can get out at any time.

  4. Step 4: Hear the level

The instructor suggests a level and a cap color, tells you what they saw and shows you the classes with room, at which pools and on which days.

  5. Step 5: Register for a class

Register at the front desk or from home on our enrollment page. The swimmer's file and the first month of tuition hold the place.

In the water

What the instructor looks at

There are no right answers at a placement visit. The instructor notices how a swimmer gets in, how they float with support, how they kick and whether they like putting their face in, then picks the level where the first class will fit.

  • How your swimmer enters the water

  • Floating with support

  • Kicking and moving through the water

  • Blowing bubbles and getting the face wet

Bring

What to bring to the pool

Pools ask for different things at the door, so we tell you what the pool you are going to expects. Most of what a swimmer needs fits in one bag.

  • A towel for the swimmer, and a dry one for the drive home

  • Goggles, if your swimmer likes them

  • A swim shirt or swimsuit; swim shirts are welcome in every class

  • Shoes for the walk from the lobby to the deck
